Artist's Comments

The second half of a commission - Laina the Spider Monkey/Magpie gryph. I know that Magpies 'n other black birds have that wonderful greenish sheen to their feathers at certain angles, but I have no paint or method to get that shine. :( I was thinking of adding streaks of really dark green, but methinks that would look rather ugly for this sculpt...
But besides that, I like the way this turned out. :3 Hopefully the customer will too?

2.5 inches tall, super sculpey clay painted with acrylics, accented with 2mm glass eyes.

There are types of nail polish that have that effect to them that go on clearish, not sure how it would effect the paint though...

Hmm, I've used a clear nail polish on acrylics before (wet nose effect on a little doggie sculpture) and it seemed fine. But if I only put the polish on all the black parts of the magpie, then it will be very shiny while the rest of the sculpt seems more dull... o.0 That might be a bit awkward, though it's all the customer's choice. Thanks for the suggestion!

Perhaps a bit of sand paper could remove the excess shine?

Oh, I never thought of that! I have many sheets of sandpaper in assorted grit. I oughta find some of that nail polish and try it on a small piece of clay first. Is this a rare kind of polish, or would I be able to find it in any cosmetics store or the like?

Its fairly easy to find around here...I'll go look for the name of it now...I have some thats redish/blueish and chandes colors depending on the angle of the lighting...
