Wall-E: Colony Crisis Cover by gryphonworks Wall-E: Colony Crisis Cover by gryphonworks
Hoo boy, finally got this one done! I've been working on it for hours over the past 10 days or so, having to juggle it between working during the night shift, attending orientations and sitting through lectures. It's got two things with which I'm extremely inexperienced - perspective and humans. I may not be very good with either, but I have to start somewhere, right? =P

I'm expecting a vast majority of people who see this won't recognize the people, and that's because they're original characters in a fanfiction called "Colony Crisis" by Level_Head which is posted here. It's set a few years after the events of the film and includes some of the major characters such as Wall-E, Eve, McCrea, and Auto, as well as some new ones who make significant contributions to the storyline. Check it out! This picture was made as a mock-up novel cover art, but decided not to add any text to it.

Don't the people fly on hover chairs? Why are they running?

*sigh* To bad the people in the actual movie (Wall-e) wasn't this thin. They were nothing more than 500 lb pillows. :/
Excellent work. :)

Amazing how some of the humans seemed to have lost all that weight. I wonder if their bone structure has been affected any.

It's 9 years after landing. But, it is possible to lose hundreds of pounds within the course of a lifetime. And, humans seem to live 150+ years in this movie. But at any rate, he made no mention of the body frames while I was showing him works in progress, so I'm guessing that's the look he was aiming for.

It's not just the pound loss, though, it is also the deterieration (sp) of the bones and muscles that take time to work back on. Anyway. x3 And why would the humans be 150+? (What gave you that hint?)

If you pause while the camera pans over the portraits of the previous captains, you can do some math with the years under their names which all come out to the 120's to 140's. I'm not sure if that indicates their birth/death years or years serving as captain, but that's got to be their minimum ages =O

Huh. Nifty. Maybe I'll check that out, or maybe not. Not that into fan-fiction myself.

I think you did a pretty good job on the humans, though the guy on the left.. well.. you emphasized his neck so much that I swore I saw some weird flesh-dangle triangle hanging off of his chin at first. Maybe a little large, maybe needs to be a shade darker, I dunno.

As for the perspective you did a pretty good job. It's really obvious that it's made up of a bunch of lines and rectangles with shading/color on them, but I think it came out pretty good. Though the background and Eve/Wall-E are the only ones you did much along the lines of perspective on.

Times I've watched that dang movie: 30, though by now I'm finally starting to tone down on the fan-driven passion. Still keeping a tally, though. Will probably throw it out eventually... Aw, to hell with it, I'm throwing it away now. Last thing I need is yet another scrap of paper cluttering my desk drawers. Especially after I got over watching it every day after the first two weeks or so.

Thanks for the critique. Yeah, I have this weird habit of drawing people with prominent sternocleidomastoid muscles for some reason. It's hard to shake. =p And I seriously tried to foreshorten the humans as much as I could, but things like that can only improve with repeated practice which I haven't yet had.

The humans wouldn't actually look too bad as far as perspective if it wasn't for the fact that the girl on the right looks like she's running straight for the wall.

In fact, I think I see how you might've screwed up. You have the center of perspective you drew the background with to the far left of the image. I think you probably should've angled them all to the right, because they're running down this hall that your looking down from the left side of it essentially. The guy on the left, the girl on the center a little more, and the girl on the right a little less.

Then I thought about it, and that's only if you're going for the realistic view, but as far as mock-up novel covers go that's probably acceptable to have them look like they're splitting up at an intersecting hallway instead of running down one hall. It puts greater focus on the characters, while leaving the less obvious background characters/action there.
